Is religion really important? Empty Is religion really important?

People have diverse interests. And however diverse those things are, there's one thing I'm sure most of you here are interested. And that is browsing the internet! I got that right. Right? If ever I'm wrong and you vehemently dislikes the internet for whatever reasons, then how in the world you landed on this site reading these very pages you are browsing now? *that's weird* Very Happy

OK. Let's just say I'm having moments of incoherent thoughts right now for telling you those silly introductions. Now then, what are your views about the importance of religion? Is it really important or is it not? Should anyone be interested discussing such subject matters that are generally impalpable and subjective? Why should anyone care about other's religious views other than what he already believes in (or disbelieves in)?

Is religion really that important, equal to the lives of millions of people throughout history who have lost their houses, belongings, families, happiness, and even their own identity as a person, died in the name of their belief system?

Should anyone really need to equip themselves with proper understanding and familiarity to these things?

YES? NO?
WHY? WHY NOT?

Well, I do have my answers on these matters. But I still want to let others to speak their minds first.

People do have diverse interests and religion as i see it should be among on the top of our interest if not the first.
It is that important that we should be sure that the religious belief we have at the moment will withstand any querries regarding it's validity.
And being a Christian, the Bible should prove it valid.

I wonder how is "being on top", not the first? ...hmm... maybe when it's sorted in reverse order of one's priority list—bottom first, then upwards. :hehehe: silly me What a Face

But how come many people have managed to live their lives productively and happily without associating themselves in religion if it is indeed *essential* to one's life?

I hope you don't mind being asked like this, just to keep the ball rolling.

Just quite alright. I don't mind being asked or be corrected. Very Happy
As i have said, ""be among on the top of our interest if not the first"". What i meant with this is....if religion is not the first in somebody's interest, it should be among on the top (the top could be among 3 or 5 or 10 of somebody's interest).
Religion should be the first or the top priority but I said "it should be among on the top" because I was considering here the other person's description of religion. For instance, religion is his second in the list and the first is to do good to everyone. In this case, he unknowingly separated doing good to everyone to religion which to my description is just one. Religion is that broad.

James 1:27 (KJV) "Pure RELIGION and undefiled before God and the Father is this...

The word "Religion" came from two Latin words "re" which means "again" and "ligio", "to tie".

So "religion" means "to tie again"

The mere fact that the word "religion" is mentioned in the Bible is enough proof that it is indeed necessary for salvation.
